Reliability-Availability-Maintainability-Safety (RAMS)
|
RAMS is the essential tool to obtain technical suitability of a System with user needs in term of physical achievement ... RAMS is the “Science of failures”. It enables assessing, measuring and controlling the features of a system concerning its: Reliability ‘’How often does it fail? ‘’ Availability ‘’On a given pool, how many systems are operational? ‘’ Maintainability ‘’How long to repair it? ‘’ Safety ‘’What are the risks related to a failure? ‘’ Testability ‘’Can the failure be detected and what is the associated ambiguity? - The reliability characteristics are involved in all the support dimensioning levels. - The maintainability characteristics condition the speed and ease of operation of systems support. - The testability studies impact the inventory, the duration of maintenance operations and the availability. - The evaluation must be carried out on the overall system as of the design phase so as to control the subsequent availability of the system during its operation. - The RAMTS studies are used for optimization purposes to decrease the overall Life Cycle Cost (LCC) of the systems.
MODELS AND METHODS USED Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Failure tree, Events per conditions (Petri networks, Markov’s graph), Statistics, Simulations.
A2L Consultants relies on its trade cards and on the major standards of the RAMS field: Functional analysis, Reliability and Maintainability allowances, Reliability-projected calculations, Testability studies, Maintainability studies, Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis, Failure trees,
